FIRST IMPRESSIONS: TAG Heuer Formula 1 Bucherer Special Edition

WAZ2015.BA0842

While some may decry the number of special editions emanating from Switzerland these days (the muttering about the seemingly never ending expansion of the TAG Heuer Autavia range springs to mind), to my mind there's always room for another one, especially if it's as stylish looking as this new piece from Bucherer.

This isn't the first time Bucherer have worked with a watch company, last year's Tudor Black Bay Bronze Blue edition was a very smart looking piece which I'm sure must have done very well for them, and if the photographs are anything to go by I'm sure the new TAG Heuer WAZ2015 will be selling like hot cakes too.

Tudor Black Bay Bronze Blue Edition

The watch comes in the standard modern 43mm Formula 1 case and with an aluminium bezel, but rather unusually (of late) contains a Calibre 5 movement, which is slightly confusing as I thought the vision for the F1 range going forward was to make it (entry level) quartz only...

The watch also comes complete with a complimentary perforated blue rubber strap and all for just £300 more than you could reasonably expect to pay for a quartz F1 at £1650, which rather makes you wonder what's the catch?

As far as I can tell there isn't one... except perhaps that the watch is only available via Bucherer's online store, which means you won't be able to check it out in Selfridges or wherever. But still, that's the way of the (modern) world I suppose.

While I'm not personally in the market for a current Formula 1 (mechanical movement or not) it must be said that the new models are probably among the best looking they've ever made. For the price I don't think you can go far wrong here, and the stylish blue/blue design shouldn't ever look dated or out of style. Bucherer seem to have hit on a winning formula with their blue editions, and no doubt there'll be more to come in the future.
