SPOTLIGHT ON: A Quick Look at the New Releases from Watches and Wonders 2022

Rest assured there will be individual 'First Impressions' posts for all the new TAG Heuer watches once I've had a bit more time to digest the finer details (and of course complete with the usual insights and scores from the COCO Council), but today I thought I would just give a very brief overview of the TAG Heuer Watches & Wonders 2022 releases, plus one rather surprising Rolex...!

First up we have this stunning looking 1500pce limited edition 'Porsche' Carrera Heuer 02. While at first glance it looks like a very mild update of the previous model with just a few touches of yellow, one major change is the dial the majority of which is now a shiny black rather than the textured 'asphalt' dial of the CBN2A1F.

Price is £5850 and it is available on the TAG Heuer website now:

Next up we have this very cool looking orange dial / black ceramic bezel Aquracer 300 Professional.. which kinda makes me wonder if I shot my bolt too early with the Formula1 WAZ101A. Very different watches at very different price points for sure, but even so this looks very nice indeed!

Price is £2700 and it is available on the TAG Heuer website now:

More orange, here we have the Aquaracer 1000M Super Diver which is 45mm in diameter and is made of grade 5 titanium. I think the overall look is great but I'm not 100% sold on the Paneraiesque crown guard. The big news here is that this one features a new COSC certified movement made exclusively for TAG Heuer by Kenissi.

This one will be available from June 2022 and will cost approximately £5500.

A new 'Gulf' branded Monaco is always a big deal and this one is no different. This one though is not a Calibre 11 left hand crown SMQ but a TAG Heuer branded Heuer 02, so does this mean the Heuer model is being discontinued? The 60 at the 12 position is sure to be contentious; I quite like it but I'm less sure about Time & Tide's claim that it pays homage to the number '60' on the classic Porsche Gulf racing car... maybe there was one but it wasn't exactly iconic!

This will drop sometime in May with a price point of just under £6000.

Biggest surprise of the morning (and perhaps the coolest watch of the lot) was this 'Aquaracer Solargraph', which  features a DLC coated stainless steel case and clasp and what looks like a new take on the resin bezel first seen with the blue and tortoiseshell Aquaracers a couple of years ago. Big news here is that the watch is powered by solar radiation and needs just two minutes of sunlight to power it for a whole day. If the price is right this could be a massive hit! Unfortunately this one won't be here until October...

Rolex GMT Master II 'Left Hand Drive'

Finally, I couldn't really post this without just mentioning the new Rolex GMT Master II LHD. Rolex fan boys were left spitting their breakfast cereal all over their laptops this morning, with many taking to their keyboards to vent their spleen about how 'awful' this looks. Well, maybe... but I bet by they end of the day Rolex will have more orders than they can hope to fulfil and I have to say while my first impression was one of bemusement, it's already starting to grow on me.

And, hard to believe but doesn't the Moonswatch suddenly feel like old news? Two days ago people were talking about Omega putting one over Rolex, but I'm not so sure...

All being well Jim and I will be back to discuss the rest of the W&W2022 releases soon and of course the COCO Council will be summoned to give forth their verdicts in short order!
