We've already seen limited edition Carreras for both Kuwait and Qatar this year and now it's time for an update to last years 'Kingdom of Saudi Arabia' Carrera. Last year's model featured a silver dial with a green outline and the KSA emblem in green on the dial. Only 100 were produced and the watch came in a special green presentation box with both a bracelet and a green alligator strap.
This year TAG Heuer have produced two models, a 41mm day/date Carrera in steel and a 29mm version with a rose gold bezel and crown and a two tone bracelet. The dials are inscribed with the words 'Saudi' (male) and 'Saudia' (female) on their respective dials.
Again the Men's 41mm Carrera is available in a limited edition of 100pcs priced at Kz 4.530.000, while the ladies two tone 29mm version is limited to just 50 pieces priced at Kz 6.620.000. The 41mm version comes with an additional black alligator strap (hence the EB part number rather than the usual BA prefix). These watches were being released to coincide with the Kingdom's 94th National Day on 23rd Sept 2024.
Personally I prefer the two-tone ladies model over the men's, and I'd like to see them as standard models without the Arabic numerals and inscriptions. But do we actually need any more green watches? At this point it's in danger of becoming a meme!
And now let's pass these over to the Council for their considered opinion...
6.0/10 for the 41mm, 8.0/10 for the 29mm.
"I love the ladies model - I score it an 8. The beautiful green dial works well with the two-tone bracelet and gold case. The other one gets a 6. Not quite such a stunning design and I hate the date window."
6.0/10 for the 41mm, 5.5/10 for the 29mm.
"41mm Steel version. 6/10. It's not for me but it's actually quite nice. The dial is particularly lovely. I just wish they had made it a date only. 29mm two tone. 5.5/10. Glad they went with two tone for this version as it compliments the beautiful dial."
5.0/10 for the 41mm, 5.5/10 for the 29mm.
"The ladies bracelet better suits the green face, but not for me, kinda specialised market."
7.0/10 for the 41mm, 7.0/10 for the 29mm.
"Clean, simple watches, and the green dial is attractive."
5.0/10 for the 41mm, 5.0/10 for the 29mm.
"Oh I’m not a fan at all. They both seem just a little over the top."
5.0/10 for the 41mm, 5.0/10 for the 29mm.
"Both near but so far. 41mm ruined by day date & far too big for that style of watch. 29mm ruined by being two tone."
5.0/10 for the 41mm, 6/10 for the 29mm.
"I love the dial colour, but they should have made the ladies model in 36mm."
6.0/10 for the 41mm, 6.0/10 for the 29mm.
"In my opinion 39 and 36 mm would have been better choices for each respectively."
6.0/10 for the 41mm, 6.0/10 for the 29mm.
"I think those will sell well in Saudi Arabia."
5.5/10 for the 41mm, 5/10 for the 29mm
"Nothing special about these. The Arabic script is a detraction and green isn't my colour."
2.0/10 for the 41mm, 2.0/10 for the 29mm.
"Not for me this time."
6.0/10 for the 41mm, 7.0/10 for the 29mm.
"Not terribly original as far as KSA-specific LEs go, but still a solid effort."
6.0/10 for the 41mm, 6.0/10 for the 29mm.
"They do nothing special for me, since I have no Arab connection. Just standard Carreras. I would prefer if the Date was on the 6 on the steel version."
