PRICE LIST: TAG Heuer Price List - July 2023

It's time for our twice yearly look at the current TAG Heuer range and how they are doing when it comes to pricing. I'm sure it will come as no surprise to anyone that there have been significant price increases (marked in red) across the board, with only the Superdiver* and two ladies Links staying the same price. The price increases are quite random, with the entry level quartz Aquaracers attracting a mere £50 increase, while the automatic models are up anywhere between £250 and £500! The Night Diver Aquaracer in particular has had a 15% increase since January...

One notable deletion is the orange dial Formula 1 WAZ101A, alongside the 41mm two tone, blue dial Aquaracer (although both of these are definitely still available in stores) and several skeleton dial Carreras.

Of course there have also been quite a few additions to the catalogue and these are marked in blue as usual.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS: TAG Heuer Aquaracer Calibre 5 'Watches of Switzerland' Limited Edition

WBP208D.BF0631

There's something familiar about this new £4100, 500pce limited edition collaboration between TAG Heuer and Watches of Switzerland isn't there? It has a certain sense of deja vu about it, right? And the closer you look the more it starts to become tangible and real. Which isn't to say it's a bad design or even a bad watch, just that it feels a bit too 'familiar' somehow - or as some might say 'classic'.

Which is fine, of course, but it feels tremendously safe and honestly kinda like it's piggy backing off two very successful Tudor watches, the 39mm Pelagos and the ubiquitous Black Bay 58 (the watch everyone who says they want unique and interesting watches actually buys - as I rather amusingly heard it described recently).

OWNED: TAG Heuer Link Searacer

CT1113.BA0550

It's a strange thing, but I haven't written a single post about my Link Searacer since my 'Buying Experience' post back in May 2019. Hard to believe, actually, that I've had this watch for over four years already. It's one I haven't worn that much, and recently even less because I needed a link for the bracelet and never got around to getting one, thinking that sooner or later it would fit me again (to be honest it's always been a bit tight), which of course it didn't. So I did finally get round to it, but to my surprise it turned out that despite the clasp having no micro adjustment there were only full links available. NOT COOL TAG HEUER!!!

So I ended up getting a full link from the TAG Heuer boutique in Sheffield (thanks Maxine) and it promptly sat in the packet for a full five weeks before I bothered my arse to fit it.

ON THE WRIST: TAG Heuer Carrera Sports 'Porsche' Special Edition Heuer 02 Chronograph

CBN2A1M.FC6526

TAG Heuer Boutique / Oxford Street, London 13th May 2023

When this one came out back in early February, it seemed just a little bit underwhelming. At first glance it was a bit of an 'oh yes, just like the yellow one they did before... but orange' kinda deal; but seeing it in person for the first time was a whole different story. Wow, this one is pretty amazing. Now granted I never actually got to see the yellow one in person, the closest I came was being told they had it out the back in reserve for someone (that was in the Derby TAG Heuer boutique - but it was my first time there and they didn't offer to get it out of the safe for me), and if I had maybe this would have had less impact, but even so this is quite a special Carrera.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS: TAG Heuer Monaco 'Skeleton' Limited Edition Heuer 02 Chronographs

CBL2182.FT6235               CBL2184.FT6236                   CBL2183.FT6236

I feel like a bit of a broken record of late, constantly bemoaning the cost of new watches week in week out, and believe me I'm as bored of writing it as you probably are of reading it. But this time is different; not (alas) because TAG Heuer decided to release something I can genuinely hail as 'value for money' but because even the C.O.C.O. Council (some of whom are a lot more financially blessed than I am) are finding it hard to overlook the astonishing prices of these new skeleton dial Monacos. So instead of moaning about the prices at the end of the post like I usually do, this time I feel like we have to address this head on, because frankly TAG Heuer are getting dangerously close to jumping the shark here.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS: TAG Heuer Carrera 'Harrods' Limited Edition Chronograph

CBN2046.FC8320

Well I promised you that next time we'd be looking at something a bit more exciting, but I bet you weren't expecting this, right? No, you were probably expecting the skeleton dial Monacos, and we will of course be getting to those. But for now I bring you this super limited edition 42mm Carrera in solid 18k 5N rose gold, with a green sunray brushed dial, solid gold hour markers and a domed crystal all presented on a green alligator strap with a matching rose gold buckle. Wowsers!

FIRST IMPRESSIONS: TAG Heuer Aquaracer Ladies Quartz Watch

WBP1418.BA0622

For the first time ever, I've decided not to ask the C.O.C.O. council to give a 'First Impression' score on a newly released watch, and I think you can probably see why. It's hard enough to get the majority of the Council on board with scoring any ladies watches, never mind one which is clearly only destined for the high street jeweller network...

Not that there's anything wrong with this watch you understand, just that it really represents the most basic of entry level pieces. Well almost, there is one small nod to luxury in that it features a white mother of pearl dial. And also a polished bezel, which until recently was hard to come by in the current ladies Aquaracer range, but apparently not for much longer.

BUYING EXPERIENCE: TAG Heuer Aquaracer 'Green Dial' Calibre 5 Watch

WBP2115.BA0627

It's been about a month since I finally got my hands on my green dial Aquaracer Professional 200, and what with everything else that's been going on recently (including our Swedish correspondent Jim Dollares finally visiting olde London town) it just kind of slipped my mind to write my 'Buying Experience' post. Seems a long time since I wrote one actually, which is a marked change from the last couple of years where I seemed to be writing them every few weeks!

But that all changed once I bought my blue dial Japanese limited edition Grand Carrera Calibre 6 and I finally realised that I didn't need 'more' watches, I needed 'better' watches, and so the cull began. But more on that anon, today we're here to talk about the WBP2115.

OWNED: TAG Heuer 4000 Series Quartz Watches

WF1112.BA0511                                            WF1111.BA0511

I'm pretty sure no one will remember but I did write an 'Owned' post about the 4000 Series back in 2019, but since then I have sold my original grey dial WF1111 and acquired a white dial WF1112. This wasn't intended to be a swap situation, but once I started culling my oversized collection it was never going to be long before the WF1111 came under the sword. Generally speaking the 4000 isn't the most exciting model TAG Heuer ever made and combine that with the glued down bezel, missing green and red paint on the case logo and deteriorating hands... well there just wasn't a compelling case for keeping it.

ON THE WRIST: TAG Heuer Carrera Heuer 02 Chronograph

CBN201C.FC6542

TAG Heuer Boutique / Spitalfields, London 15th April 2023

Once again I'm so behind with these posts that I've since tried on this watch again (at the TAG Heuer boutique on Oxford Street) and in both colours. But my initial meeting was with the black dial version and I was rather surprised by how much I liked this one. I've tried on a 42mm (no longer called 'Elegant') Carrera before, but the initial release colours were rather too, ahem... elegant for my liking, but this rather sporty looking take on the same model certainly appeals more to me.
