ON THE WRIST: TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre TH20-00 'Harrods' Limited Edition Chronograph

TAG Heuer Boutique / Harrods, London 19th March 2026

The TAG Heuer 'boutique' in the Harrods department store is like no other that I've ever been in. In fact it doesn't really feel like you're in a TAG Heuer boutique at all because it lacks most of the usual stylings of other TH boutiques: the Monaco wall clock, the Steve McQueen pictures, the racing helmets and books, etc. Additionally, unlike the flashy AP, Rolex, Vacheron and Hublot boutiques found nearby it shares a small room with other brands such as Zenith, Tudor and (gasp) Bremont! And oddly, even though it was redone recently, it still feels kind of temporary somehow. Which is weird; like a store cupboard that's been turned into additional retail space or something...

Anyway, I hadn't actually planned to go to Harrods today, but I found myself with a couple of hours to kill between appointments and decided to head there as it was near where I had lunch (The Scarsdale Tavern in Edwardes Square, not bad at all and ideally situated if you happen to be visiting the Design Museum). At first I didn't really see anything very interesting, certainly nothing like the array of treats you generally find in the 'flagship' Oxford Street store, but then I caught sight of the new 'beige' Seafarer (not for me, that one) and much more interestingly the Harrods Limited Edition Carrera that I wrote about last year.

In that post I mentioned how the watch had actually come out at the end of 2024, but that I hadn't found out about it until one had appeared on the Watchfinder website, which gave me the part number and lead to some digging on the internet - producing a listing on some random Indonesian website called 'Luxehouze' (something that is all the stranger in hindsight, given what I'm about to tell you...).

My post was pretty positive and I said the watch was the best of the three Harrods editions so far (the previous two being the white dial 'Autavia' and the solid gold cased Carrera with the green dial) and seeing it inperson certainly didn't change that view (though to be fair so far I haven't, and probably never will, seen the gold one), in fact I really liked it on the wrist (despite the slightly gloomy feel in that particular room, which could partly be the low ceiling*).

*Interestingly I was talking about my visit with a friend and he said he felt the same when he went there a few years ago.

As you can see from these pictures, this one really exemplifies the 'Harrods' feeling, with the luxurious green and gold really working with the base silver dial. It makes so much more sense than the previous two models which didn't really convey the 'Harrods' look at all in my opinion, and this is probably neck and neck for me with the Tudor Black Bay 'Harrods' Edition in that regard (although naturally I prefer this one because it's a TAG Heuer not a Tudor).

In fact given that only fifty of these have been manufactured, it's rather surprising that eighteen months down the line they still have about twenty left. Or it would be if it wasn't for the fact that for some reason this release is considered (whisper it) 'TOP SECRET!' Oh, you didn't know that either, huh? Well now you do...

Y'see, when I spotted the LE in the cabinet I pointed it out to my wife and was immediately 'challenged' as to how I knew about it? I know, 'challenged' sounds a bit strong doesn't it? But 'challenged' I was, which seemed rather odd to me... like, why would you not want me to know about a watch that's for sale? Makes zero sense to me...

Well it transpires that part of the agreement between TAG Heuer and Harrods was that this watch wouldn't be advertised, which strikes me as a bit odd and a little hard to understand really. I mean I can't see why TAG Heuer wouldn't want to advertise it, so presumably this stipulation was made by Harrods themselves. Perhaps this is a standard thing when they collaborate with brands? But I certainly knew about the Harrods Black Bay before I went to Harrods, so that doesn't seem to hold water.

So then if we assume that to be the case and you were 'restricted' from advertising a product and then someone came into the store who already knew about it, wouldn't that be seen as a good thing? Like, ooh a potential customer here? Someone who already knows about this secret watch that we're struggling to find customers for?

Well I would have thought so, but apparently not. Which kinda makes me wonder why they even put it in the cabinet, because if you really want to keep it a secret, just leave it in the safe and wait for someone to come in and ask for it. Which of course, they won't because no one's supposed to know it exists!

Have you ever heard anything so bloody daft?

So you may be thinking that this is one of those watches that you can only buy if you 'know' and if you have a relationship with the AD. But no, not at all, they were perfectly happy for me to try it on and to buy it, they just didn't appreciate that I walked in knowing about it. I mean, I am the TAG Heuer Enthusiast so of course I bloody know about it! I really need to get a T-shirt or something with 'TAG Heuer Enthusiast' printed on it or something, and maybe some business cards... just so I can leave them on the counter as I leave. 🤣

Come to think of it, when I posted about the previous (gold) Carrera on this blog, 'someone' left a comment asking 'Where did you get these pictures?', which now seems even more oddly abrasive than it did at the time....

Anyway, the Harrods Limited Edition Carrera is quite a lovely watch and will probably be available for quite some time given the amount of promotion it's getting. So if you're reading this in 2027 don't despair, it's probably still in stock. Current price is £6500, incidentally.

And when they ask how you know about it, tell them you saw it here. 🤣

FEATURE: My Top 10 Formula 1s by Mspeedster

Today we have a visual treat in store as we once again invite a guest to share their 'TOP 10' Formula 1s. Mspeedster is a regular over at THF Forums and the fourth person to share their picks so far and we're certainly seeing some variety! Which is great, though it might make it a bit tricky to assemble an ultimate top ten (though it's early days yet, I will worry about that nearer to Christmas).

Don't forget, if you'd like to see the other posts in this series honouring the 40th anniversary of the Formula 1 you can do so simply by clicking on the banner at the bottom of this page.

Over to you, Mspeedster:

10. Fujiwara Fragment F1 CAZ201A.BA0641.

MSPEEDSTER: This watch looks more like an Autavia tribute than a Formula 1, but that's part of its charm.

9. Original F1 383.513 BP Oil Edition.

MSPEEDSTER: BP Oil sponsored some F1 teams in the early '90s, such as Team Lotus, giving the watch a bit of provenance. But I just think this thing looks cool!

8. James Hunt Edition F1 CAZ1017.FC8212.

MSPEEDSTER: Love James Hunt's helmet stripes motif on the dial and the way it continues on the NATO strap.

7. Indy 500 F1 CAZ101AD.FT8024.

MSPEEDSTER: My favourite of all the Indy 500 Editions.

6. Gulf Special Edition CAZ101N.FC8243.

MSPEEDSTER: The best of the Formula 1 Gulf editions. Its unique asphalt-suede blue strap completes the look.

5. Senna F1 CBZ2081.FT8092.

MSPEEDSTER: The latest and greatest Senna Special Edition hits the mark. It's the only Senna release to really tempt me in the last 10 years.

4. Original F1 Chronograph 472.513.

MSPEEDSTER: The only Formula 1 watch ever worn by Ayrton Senna. Although he only wore it once at the 1991 Japanese GP, it's of historical significance as he clinched his 3rd WDC while wearing it. If not for its unreliable RH 50-51-52 movement, I might've ranked it higher.

3. Original F1 Ukyo Katayama 382.513/K.

MSPEEDSTER: Such a fun and colourful watch. Although the colours are that of Katayama's Venturi F1 car, it's also Senna's colours!

2. Monaco Grand Prix 1997 F1 CA1211-R0.

MSPEEDSTER: A very rare bird, with only 70 released. This is probably the F1 that I'd most want to add to my collection. It just oozes neo-vintage TAG cool!!!

1. Original F1 Shell Oil Edition 385.513.

MSPEEDSTER: The standard 385.513 with a red strap was the very first team watch of the Marlboro TAG-McLaren team. But the rare Shell Oil edition is my absolute favourite version!

Thanks Mspeedster, a very 'Formula 1' themed selection of 'Formula 1s' indeed. If you'd like to hear more from Mspeedster, you can read an interview I did with him back in 2019 HERE.

FIRST QUARTER ROUND UP: New Pieces (Jan/Mar)

By this time next week we'll be knee deep in Watches & Wonders and presumably we'll know for sure whether or not those slightly odd looking, left hand crown, TAG Heuer branded Monaco clocks they keep putting up in the Grand Prix paddocks were a massive (hiding in plain sight) leak or just a weird way of advertising a watch that doesn't actually exist. My feeling is (and has been for some time) that it is the former, because why on Earth would you do that otherwise?

Well, soon the truth will be known and doubtless there will be tons of other new models released that need looking at too. But as I have said many times before I simply cannot keep spending all my time looking at new watches and ignoring the rich and varied history of the brand, so I will be very selective about which ones are featured and given C.O.C.O. 'First Impressions' scores... otherwise we'll be reading about nothing else until June!

But obviously I still want to make sure everything is covered, so to combat this overload of 'new release' posts I've decided to do quarterly round ups (rather than just one 'half-year' one) to keep you up to speed. So with that said, let's start by looking at the watches that we haven't previously spoken about...

Firstly, I have to tell you that this one actually came out in the dying days of December 2025, but it was too late to be included in the '2025 COCO Watch of the Year' poll so I'm including it here. First impression for me was that it was much nicer than the limited edition 'Silverstone GP' F1 that came out earlier last year. Switching the dial ring from green to black conveniently negates the problem of colour matching, but also just looks 'better', and the orange second hand really pops against that white dial. However when I saw it in person that rich green bezel looked washed out (again) and I still don't like the case shape or the mottled finish to the steel.

Next up we have the two tone 41mm day/date Carrera that was launched at LVMH Watch Week back in January. The dial looks silver here, which is slightly misleading. The TAG Heuer website tells me it's actually 'beige' and in person it definitely has a 'warmth' to it that works with the bezel. I'm not going to rag on TAG Heuer for the price of this watch because it has a gold bezel and one ounce of gold now costs almost as much as one ounce of printer ink so what can they do? I did actually cover this one in an 'On the Wrist' post HERE. For me it's just not that interesting, honestly.

Finally we have this new Aquaracer Solargraph, which is clearly taking inspiration from 2024's C.O.C.O. Watch of the Year, the 'Time & Tide' limited edition and is itself a limited edition of 300 pieces for the UK market. Where the 'T&T' Aquaracer was cast in titanium and came on a green textile strap, this one is just normal stainless steel (with a super impractical polished centre link bracelet for you desk divers) but still manages to look quite classy and elegant and is easily my pick out of these three and definitely in my top two for 2026 so far.

There have been two other watches released in the first quarter of the year, but they are already in the process of being scored and a 'First Impressions' post about those will follow very soon, so for now it's just nine pieces in total.

Which one is your favourite so far?

FORMULA 1

Just the one Solargraph so far, and that was actually released in December... not a very promising start for the Formula 1's 40th anniversary year is it? I wonder if they will actually present a 40th birthday watch for the model at Watches & Wonders? If they do, my money is on a titanium cased Solargraph with a carbon effect dial that costs about £4000. Or maybe a solar chronograph... or a combination of those things? No idea, honestly - I'm just pulling ideas out my ass here, and that seems kind of logical. Think Kirium Ti5. They already stole the grooved strap idea from that one hey...

AQUARACER

Again, just one piece released so far and one of only two limited editions we've seen this year (well, there are four actually as the other two watches I mentioned are limited edition Carreras). I don't really know what to expect from Watches & Wonders for the Aquaracer, except we did see some blurry images in a 'Time & Tide' video a few weeks back which appeared to show a black Aquaracer with an orange ring around the dial. That definitely sounds interesting, but only if it's 42mm not 36mm.

WBP1119.BA0000: 40mm Solargraph (300 piece UK limited edition)

MONACO

No new Monacos so far this year (no Links, Monzas or Autavias either of course, but you probably weren't expecting any), but I'm pretty sure we'll be getting at least one at Watches & Wonders, so watch this space.

CARRERA

Seven Carreras so far (nine if we include the two LEs that are 'in progress') which seems par for the course these days, but then since the Carrera name has been completely abused and now means literally anything that isn't a dive watch (from a 27mm ladies three hander to a 45mm skeleton tourbillon) why bother with other names? To be fair, it's not just TAG Heuer doing this, in fact most brands seem to be doing the same thing and the watch enthusiasts aren't helping matters with their attitude to anything 'new' being generally 'dismissive'. So there you go, more Carreras... and six glassboxes (you lucky people).

FIRST IMPRESSIONS: TAG Heuer Carrera 'Wempe' Limited Edition Chronograph

One of the nicer Carreras of recent times has to have been the 'Swiss Alps' tourbillon that came out in a limited run of fifty pieces back in 2024. Despite being hampered by being a 'glassbox' this one fared rather well with the 'Council of Considered Opinion', scoring a creditable 6.5 on release (falling slightly to a 6.3 at the end of the year) and to me it was a no brainer that the blue/silver 'panda' would return at some point... and hopefully without the dirty great hole in the dial needed for the tourbillon.

And sure enough, here it is (kind of), albeit once again in a limited run of fifty for the German luxury watch retailer 'Wempe'. Which seems a little odd to me, because surely it's easier to sell 50x 39mm chronographs than 50x tourbillons, no?*

*And no, it's not just 50x watches in Germany because I am reliably informed that Wempe operates in the US too.
