Browsing the 'Japanese' TAG Heuer website today I came across this colourful looking Aquaracer that I wasn't previously aware of. Made to celebrate Japanese footballer Shinji Kagawa in 2017, this Aquaracer is limited to 400 pieces and carries the football star's signature on the back plate.
Like most of the 'football' themed watches of late it uses a similar (ceramic) bezel design to the FA Premier League watch. This is complemented by a yellow band on the dial highlighting the 45 minute playing time, with the remaining quarter hour available to record 'injury' time. The minute hand is coloured yellow to tie it in with this function and of course you can turn the bezel to 'zero' it if the match starts late or doesn't start on the hour.
The watch carries a Calibre 5 automatic movement in it's 43mm diameter case, which is a little surprising given that this is aimed at the Japanese market. The website doesn't say the watch is sold out, but you can't buy it directly and there is no price displayed, it simply asks you to 'shop in store', which probably means there's one watch available in one boutique somewhere in Japan!
I think the watch looks quite nice, yellow and blue is a great colour scheme and it works here just as well as it does on a lot of other watches. I don't really know if the colours are relevant to Mr Kagawa, a lot of the photos I've seen of him on the internet he seems to be wearing a black football kit, but then it looks as if the Japanese national team (of which he is a part) play in blue, so that may be the connection. Regardless, it's a striking colour scheme that works well and makes it abundantly clear that this isn't just another 300M Aquaracer.
