FEATURE: Keeping Track of Wrist Time (2025 Edition)

Happy New Year fellow TAG Heuer Enthusiasts and welcome to 2026. I am hopeful for a great year of new watches and interesting posts, but we'll have to wait and see I guess (...on both counts 🤣).

With the 'Crazy Year of Watch Buying' posts well and truly a thing of the past, it's time for my only truly self-indulgent post of the year... my annual 'Keeping Track of Wrist Time' update. So this year, like every year for the last several years I have kept a daily record of which watches I wear (usually one or two a day - one to work, one in the evening) and now I can present to you the results.

But first, it's time to quickly update you on the (fairly minimal) comings and goings of my collection. As you probably remember I have been slowly whittling away at my collection, trying to get it down to a sensible number. Twenty perhaps? Well, I'm still a way off that, but it is coming down and I have earmarked several pieces for sale in the near future, but we'll see if that actually comes about.

So, obviously, it's that time again... where I reveal the REAL winners and losers of 2024. 🤣

I'm talking of course about which watches spent the most (and least) time on my wrist, and this year it's safe to say it was a bit of a walkover...

Happy New Year to all my readers, and before we begin another year of the T.H.E. Blog I just wanted to take a second to thank you all for visiting my blog and keeping me going. Readership has doubled over the last couple of years (as far as I can tell from the page views) and I'm very happy that my enthusiasm for the brand has seemingly rubbed off on so many of you. 

Now the past few years I've done a post called 'My Crazy Year of Watch Buying' or variations on that theme. But this year I actually bought a grand total of two watches; the green-dial Calibre 5 Aquaracer and the original carbon bezel Solargraph (plus my wife's short-lived two-tone Aquaracer or course!) so I don't really think it's worth doing that again this year.

However, as usual I have been keeping tabs on what I've worn over the year and now that my collection is down to a slightly less ridiculous size it gives me the opportunity to wear more watches more often. Or so you'd think.... as we'll see perhaps it hasn't worked out quite as hoped, and maybe there is a case to be made for disposing of a few more pieces?

Happy New Year everyone, and welcome to 2023. We start the year with everybody's favourite post... 'Keeping Track of Wrist Time' (I jest of course, it doesn't get any more self-indulgent than this!), in which I reveal which watches I wore the most (and least) during the year of our Lord Jean Claude Biver 2022. 

I know, it's a LOT, just keep calm and we'll get through this together! Haha.

Now if you've already read my 'Another Crazy Year of Watch Buying' post that went up a few days ago, you'll know that there's been a fair bit of coming and going this year. Actually a lot more going than coming... which is a good thing, because looking back it's clear that I had (and still have, truthfully) far too many watches to actually wear them all. In fact I'd be somewhat surprised if I'd worn my Microtimer more than 25 times since I bought it back in 2017. And given it cost me £85 for a new battery last year, that isn't a good ratio!

I made a conscious decision last year not to do a quarterly 'Keeping Track of Wrist Time' post. For one thing, I'm not sure it's that interesting for you the reader to keep up with what I'm wearing four times a year and also, I feel it's hard to quantify the relevance of it since the collection changes through the year as new pieces are added. So instead I decided that going forward I would just do one 'KTOWT' each year and this is it for 2021.

So another three months has passed and totals have been tallied. Now that I have the Senna F1, the black S/EL and the blue 2000 Exclusive back their numbers have started to climb, and of course four new pieces have been added in this quarter (bottom four in the graph) and two of them have already had enormous amounts of wrist time.

The only watch I haven't worn this quarter is the Microtimer and ignoring the new grey/yellow Formula 1 which I've only just added, it's definitely my least worn watch of 2020.

*Asterisks on the CG1110, WAZ1014 and WN1112 signify lost time due to being away at TAG Heuer for several months due to repairs and the Covid 19 shutdown.

*Asterisk on the WAJ1111 is due to lost time while the watch was away having a battery fitted.

*Asterisk on the 932.206 was because the watch needed extra links and I couldn't wear it for a couple of months.

Back in April I posted about how from the start of the year I had started to write down which watches I wore each day and I was quite surprised by the results. Well I have continued to do this over the second quarter and again I've produced a graph to represent the results..

I got my WAJ1111 back from the service centre in early March I think, so that hasn't been affected during this period. I also managed to fix the bracelet on my steel 3000 Series so I've been able to wear that as well, although not until the end of April so that's been a favourite. I really do love that watch and I was lucky to find it at a good price, but I still don't plan on selling my two-tone 934.206.

As for the three zero scoring watches on the graph, these have all been stuck at the TAG Heuer Service centre / Bicester since February, but I believe I should be able to pick them up next week!

So looking at the results for the year to date it's clear that the 500M Aquaracer has got a lot of wrist time and still comes in equal first despite being away for several weeks earlier in the year. The red dial S/EL is still showing strongly as well, as is the 'classic' blue bezel Aquaracer (WAB1112).

On the other hand, my automatics are suffering, with no nights out in the last quarter there's been little opportunity to wear them, although I have worn them around the house now and then. There's also been quite a few days when I didn't wear a watch at all, mainly due to being off work and doing a lot of DIY. Maybe I should get a G-Shock... only kidding!

I really need to wear my F1 Kirium as well, as it's languishing behind even the watches I haven't been able to wear since February! I am just so ridiculously protective of that one, because it's my first TAG Heuer and I hate to think of it getting scratched (it already has a light scratch to the AR coating on the crystal and it really bugs me every time I wear it).

Overall though, it seems like I am wearing my 'everyday' watches fairly evenly... with only my classic 'resin' Formula 1 trailing behind.

At the start of the year I decided it would be a good idea to keep a track of which watches I wear each day. The intention was not to influence wear rates, merely to observe - but I think the act of writing down what I was wearing each morning had the unintended effect of making me choose less randomly, I suppose this was inevitable...

Even so I am somewhat surprised by the results, especially when it came to the two watches that I have worn the most over the last three months. While I do like my red S/EL I really wouldn't have pegged the blue dial Aquaracer as a top watch, but it seems like I go to it quite often according to these figures. I didn't realise how much I liked my Link Searacer either...

Now, there are some caveats to mention. I don't wear my automatic watches to work, so I wouldn't exepect the Aquagraph, the WAY208C Aquaracer or the two Carreras to be front runners here... and given that I won't be going out much in the next few months I guess they won't be getting much wrist time for a while, unless I start wearing them around the house!

Also the watches marked with an asterisk have been somewhat compromised:

The 932.206 3000 Series is currently out of action because I need to sort out a pin to hold the strap together. More on this another time...

The WAJ1111 Aquaracer was away for several weeks at the service centre having a new battery and a new bezel spring fitted, but I have it back now.

The CG1110 S/EL is currently away at the service centre having a service, polish and re-lume.

The WN1112 2000 Exclusive is currently away at the service centre having a service and the crown repaired.

The WAZ1014 is currently in the safe at TAG Heuer Bicester Village as it came back from a warranty repair minus the lume on the minute hand and had to go back again, it came back just before the lockdown started but I didn't get a chance to collect it.

Don't know when I will get the last three back again as the service centre and Bicester Village are both closed for the time being.

The one that sticks out I guess is the F1 Kirium, which I've only worn once in the last three months. Not because I don't like it, but I am a bit precious about that one as it was my first ever TAG Heuer and aside from a small scratch to the AR coating on the sapphire it is pretty much mint. I don't like to wear that one to work either, but then it has to compete with my automatics for wrist time when going out.

It will be interesting to see how this pans out over the year... and it's now been three months since I added any watches to my collection!
