This post has been kicking around for a few weeks, but since there were (frankly) a lot more interesting things to talk about I never got a round to posting it.
Initially released last year on some rather nice colour coded rubber straps, nevertheless these three were scored very low by the council in the end of year poll (and rightly so in my opinion). A year on and TAG Heuer have decided to re-release them on the standard Formula 1 bracelet and, well... I'm not entirely sure it's a positive move.
If anything the coloured rubber straps were the best thing about these 'Gucci-esque' quartz chronographs and while perhaps the bracelets make them look a little less frivolous, it doesn't improve the rather tacky looking dials. I can't quite put my finger on what's wrong with these as red, green and yellow dials should make for three fun Formula 1's, but somehow these just look 'cheap' and that's not good look when they're actually £1750 a pop!
As before the green is definitely the best of the bunch and the yellow is still horrible. It's not even really yellow, it's a kind of mucky looking gold... at least there's no mismatch with the yellow strap anymore (every cloud, etc). I haven't bothered to ask the Council to rescore these but rest assured they will be included in the end of year voting (along with 72 other watches - I know, crazy right!) so you will find out if the Council approves of these braceleted versions on the 24th of December, just six days from now.
